The Marketing God’s Greatest Downfall
Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away, I was running an ad account for a karate gym. It was doing great. We were spending about 700$/day using Google AdWords and the ROAS was +/- 3
Meaning for every 1$ we spent we made at least 2$ back!
That’s so good it should be illegal…
I was excited, as one would be. Flying high like Icarus, basking in the joy of my success and gloating about it to everyone I knew.
And just like Icarus… I was about to be humbled, real fast.
I flew too close to the sun, and my wings already began to burn without me even knowing it.
This Mistake Can Bankrupt You
One day I woke up, I grabbed a quick coffee and opened my laptop.
I was feeling great until I logged in.
My ads were paused and my account was blocked, no biggy right?
I thought it must’ve been a temporary issue, so I went out and forgot about it.
Few hours go by… It’s still blocked.
I decided to get in touch with customer service.
Apparently It’s impossible to get in touch with a human. Turns out even if you’re spending upwards $20,000/month, you’re still considered small fry.
I’m sending ticket after ticket, yet the only thing I get to speak with is a chatbot.
Three days go by… Finally I get a response, somewhere along the line my ads got tagged as “possibly misleading”
Keep in mind, these are regular ads. There’s nothing particularly off putting about them.
So I get absorbed into a ton of heated discussions regarding the topic.
In the meanwhile… I have ZERO leads coming in.
Why? Because I got dependent on only ONE source of leads.
The One Way To Kill Any Business
At the start I was furious… I blamed everything else but myself.
I thought it was google’s fault, they had scammed me…
But then it hit me, probably as hard as ngannou hit tyson.
This was ALL MY FAULT.
I failed horrendously because I got too dependent on ONE source.
1 is the worst number in business, Yes O-N-E.
One Key employee
One Big client
One source of leads.
What happens when that ONE is taken away? You’re dead in the water.
And that’s the harsh reality of business, everything that CAN go wrong WILL go wrong.
So I vowed never to be in the same position again.
How To Make Your Marketing Bulletproof
Nowadays, I make it a point to spot the ones in my business.
Every “ONE”’ is a vulnerability, something that can be exploited. A ticking time bomb just waiting for the signal.
You get the picture.
The worst case, is when you start ignoring a specific “one” because you’ve tricked yourself into believing that “this one is different”
Just a heads up, “this one isn’t different”
When it comes to advertising, this means we’re always testing ads, seeing if they work.
If they do? Awesome, we start branching it out across multiple platforms.
Meta Ads working? Amazing
Let’s look at Youtube.
And Google.
And offline.
And direct mail.
And cold email.
And autoresponder marketing.
And affiliate marketing.
And anything else we can think of.
This is the only way to become “Hard To Kill”
And that’s exactly what we want, a bulletproof shield that makes us invincible.
